THE BENEFITS OF SEAWEED
Seaweed is the most nutritious vegetable in the world!
OCEAN & GREEN is passionate about seaweed for its remarkable scientifically-based and natural health-boosting properties. Here's why taking seaweed is so beneficial for our overall health, well-being and skin!
Why is Seaweed So Good for You?
International research is continuously being done on Macrocystis Seaweed — the variety harvested from New Zealand’s South Island by Ocean & Green.
Macrocystis seaweed is an aquatic, plant-like algae and also known as brown kelp, or brown algae. It is a natural superfood tested by scientists to be the most nutritionally dense and beneficial type of seaweed on earth.
Seaweed is Exceptionally Nutritious
Macrocystis seaweed contains a unique combination of micronutrients - it is packed with vitamins, minerals, electrolytes and trace elements — all essential for human health and for supporting the body’s basic functions.
As well as this, because the nutrients in seaweed are present in their natural form, they are readily absorbed and processed easily within the body.
Seaweed also possesses anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties. Ocean & Green Seaweed Supplements offer a convenient, easy way of delivering all these essential nutrients to your body in an easily digestible form.
Seaweed is a 'Powerhouse Superfood'
A superfood is a nutrient-rich staple that is considered to be especially beneficial for health and wellbeing. Macrocystis seaweed is widely considered to be a superfood, due to its significant mineral content. There are numerous potential health benefits gained from taking seaweed as a nutritional or dietary supplement, with internationally acclaimed scientists suggesting that its impressive health benefits are hard to ignore.
Seaweed for Weight Loss
One of the most widely reported benefits of seaweed is its properties for weight loss. Seaweed has been found to regulate the body’s hormones and helps to support a steady metabolism — one of the cornerstones of maintaining a healthy lifetime weight.
Seaweed contains algin for weight loss and weight management — a natural fibre that absorbs toxins and uncomfortable nutrients from the digestive system. This natural fibre found in seaweed has been shown to inhibit the enzymes that allow the body to digest fat.
As well as this, seaweed contains omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA, so it might be helpful for people with blood sugar imbalances. The fucoidan found in seaweed helps the body shed the fat surrounding the heart and internal organs. It also aids the reduction of high cholesterol and has been seen to reduce high blood pressure levels, which can translate into weight loss.
Seaweed dietary fibres are known to improve the gut and digestive order. They have also been shown to reduce metabolic stress such as those experienced in a pre-diabetic condition.
Seaweed and Blood Pressure
Seaweed is said to treat high cholesterol and high blood pressure, as it promotes the production of a certain liver enzyme which aids the reduction of cholesterol. It is a great source of natural iron and has benefits for maintaining your body’s peak performance while exercising. Some experts have touted seaweed for its muscle toning properties and have found that it’s great to include as part of daily diet while exercising. Not only is seaweed high in iron but it is also rich in Vitamin C.
The Anti-Inflammatory Benefits of Seaweed
Seaweed has been found to help and treat inflamed joints and tissues caused by arthritis and rheumatism. International food scientists are now discovering that seaweed contains powerful chemicals (named phenolic compounds) which may have both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant powers.
Seaweed for your Skin, Hair and Nails
Organic seaweed has been found to have benefits for maintaining strong and healthy skin, hair and nails. Seaweed boosts detoxification so it helps your skin cells rid themselves of toxins that would otherwise prevent them from working as they should. Regular users of seaweed supplements have reported that their hair and nails seem glossy, shiny and lustrous, compared with their condition before treatment.
Seaweed and Healthy Digestion
Seaweed and kelp products have been found to promote and improve digestive health. They do this by stimulating kidney function and increasing circulation while purifying the blood. Seaweed supplements are a great source of fibre, containing fucan and galactan. Macrocystis seaweed varieties have been proven to promote gut health, and have been found to ward off constipation, due to naturally high fibre content.
Seaweed’s Detox Properties
Seaweed and kelp are known as antioxidants. They can help protect your body and combat oxidative stresses. Seaweed supplements are a good balancer of the body and brain, assisting with detoxing your body of everyday chemicals and toxins. The fucoidan enzyme, found in Macrocystis seaweed, is a sulphated polysaccharide which has been proven to naturally eliminate harmful cells from the body.
Seaweed and Healthy Thyroid Function
Your thyroid is one of your body's most essential endocrine glands, helping to regulate the body’s metabolism. Iodine stimulates the thyroid gland. Using iodine and the amino acid tyrosine, the thyroid produces thyroxine and thyronine, two hormones that regulate temperature, function and growth of every cell in the body.
Because seaweed draws its nutrients from the ocean, it contains loads of iodine that can help stimulate your thyroid. In fact, seaweed is often used for the treatment of an under-active thyroid and has been found to make hypo-active individuals feel more healthy and vibrant.
Seaweed for a Healthy Heart
Studies have suggested that seaweed has significant heart benefits, and helps to keep your heart healthy by helping to keep your cholesterol under control, and contains polysaccharides — which help to prevent blood clots.
Ocean & Green Wild Seaweed
Macrocystis seaweed colonies grow wild offshore in southern New Zealand, an easy paddle distance of around 100 metres, where they can be easily collected. We place the coordinates of the harvest area on every bottle of our products, so you can see exactly where your seaweed was harvested.
It is from this pristine environment that Oceangreen Organics sources its organic wild seaweed. Our organic kelp is pure and sustainably harvested. Kelp can grow up to thirty centimetres a day and is hand-picked from the water during dusk or dawn, when the plants switch from respiration to photosynthesis.
